Reclamation works in Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo island commences

Reclamation works at Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo island commenced today. The works are undertaken by the Netherlands dredging company Boskalis International bv. Under this project 14 hectares of land will be reclaimed and will be protected using rock revetment. The revetment works will take 4 to 10 days to complete.
The shore protection works sub-contracted to MT-Hojgaard, will commence after the reclamation works.
The project cost totals to 111.8 Million Maldivian Rufiyaa. The reclamation, shore protection and harbor project is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2011.

Reclamation works commence at Noonu atoll Velidhoo island

Reclamation Works under the ‘4 Island reclamation project’ commence at N.Velidhoo on 25th August 2010. The works undertaken by the Netherlands dredging company Boskalis International bv and financed by the ING bank. Under this project 14 hectares of land will be reclaimed and will be protected using rock revetment. The bund works in preparation for the reclamation works commenced earlier this year in June. Environment Minister meets with UNEP’s Regional Director

The Minister of Housing and Environment H.E. Mohamed Aslam, currently in an official visit to Thailand, met with the UNEP’s Regional Director for Asia and Pacific Dr. Young-Woo Park at the Regional Office for Asia and Pacific in Bangkok. During this meeting Minister Aslam briefed the Regional Director on the status and progress on the various activities implemented by UNEP in the Maldives. The Minister also discussed with the Regional Director on ways to further strengthening the existing excellent cooperation between the Maldives and UNEP in the field of environmental protection and management.
